Growth Charts & Percentiles: What do all those numbers mean?
👦 👩
When you go to your child's well check and are told your child is 25th percentile for weight? That sounds low, right? Or is it? Let's BREAK this down.
👦 👩
The 25th percentile indicates that your child has a weight greater than 25% of children of the same age and a lighter weight than 75% of them. That's ALL that it means! As long as your child maintains their individual growth pattern, whether in the 90th or 3rd percentile, they are thriving!
😵💫
Charts are available for boys and girls from the World Health Organization and the CDC in the U.S. It's important to watch for any significant shifts in percentiles, as such changes MAY indicate a reason for concern.
👩⚕️
Comparing your child's percentiles to those of other children DOES NOT accurately reflect their health.
